3 Ways to Quickly Fix Word Formatting Issues

Why are a number of papers so tricky to work with? You start to feel like there are gremlins on the pages, and that may not be so far fetched! The biggest offenders seem to be automatic numbering and bullets. Especially when there is multiple level numbering or bullet styles involved. Some documents can have so many formatting issues, it is actually faster to select the entire document (ctrl/a) and select the 'clear formatting' selection from the styles drop-down list on the formatting toolbar. That is an extreme measure when there are just too many conflicting formats and styles.

Dissertation Format

There are lots of different types of assignment and so it is not easy to create a comprehensive set of suggestions to ensemble every single dissertation format. The type of assignment will read out the content and format of the dissertation and you must talk about this with your superior. For example, for a theoretical project it is likely that several chapters will be devoted to constructing the theoretical foundations for the project and will consist of your own interpretation and synthesis of existing work with suitable examples discussed throughout. A sequence of chapters that cover theoretical framework, conditions and assumptions and theory application and comparisons may be appropriate. For an experimental project, the experimental goals, design, execution and evaluation might be covered. What now follows is a typical format for a 'design and build' project. It is strongly recommended that you look at examples of previous MSc dissertations. These are available in electronic form from the dissertation archive.
